Thank you for supporting our 70 Years as ONE campaign

why we’re here

Welcome to One Institute, formerly known as ONE Archives Foundation, an independent 501(c)(3) dedicated to telling the history and stories of queer and trans people and culture through public exhibitions, K-12 educational initiatives, and community engagement programs. As a nonprofit offering programs at no cost to the public, we depend entirely on the support of our community members and public and private grant funds.

our impact

One Institute is a leading producer of intersectional LGBTQ+ history, arts, and cultural content in Los Angeles. In 2023, One Institute launched Circa, the first and only queer histories festival in the country, in honor of LGBTQ+ History Month. Circa 2023’s unprecedented lineup of 70+ arts and cultural programs spotlights the bold artistic talent of over 200 community presenters hosting events at 31 venues across Los Angeles County.

In addition to Circa, One Institute has organized dozens of high-quality, no cost multimedia projects and exhibitions, including the 2021 multi-site public art project Pride Publics, which attracted over 70,000 visitors and uplifted the work of over 90 LGBTQ+ artists, scholars, and community leaders. Our podcast Periodically Queer returned for a second season in June 2023 and was recently featured in the Los Angeles Times.

Through our education programs, One Institute has served 180 educators and administrators, providing LGBTQ+ history lesson plans to K-12 teachers across Los Angeles and beyond. Our youth mentorships programs, including Youth Ambassadors for Queer History and Youspeak Radio, have equipped four cohorts of students with archival research, oral history, and audio storytelling skills.
