History Has Work to Do!

Since 2016, One Institute has worked with corporate partners, making LGBTQ+ history visible and providing opportunities for team members to learn about our programs. Through Queer History at Work, we partner with companies and organizations that support diversity and equity, and foster inclusive work environments. We provide trainings on LGBTQ+ history including topics such as:

  • history of the LGBTQ+ movements
  • LGBTQ+ Pride
  • gender identity
  • the LGBTQ+ acronym

We also offer sponsorship opportunities for our corporate partners who wish to support our programs and events.

    • PRIDE (Personal Rights in Defense and Education) led hundreds in protest when police raided the Black Cat bar in Los Angeles and brutally beat patrons and the bartender. February 11, 1967.
    • The photo above is from a candlelight vigil organized by AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA) in 1983. APLA was born out of an emergency meeting at the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Community Services Center (now Los Angeles LGBT Center), establishing a volunteer-run AIDS information hotline, and later, providing support groups, education, and housing programs and much more.
    • Lesbianas de Latino America at the Los Angeles Christopher Street West pride parade. 1981.
    • US Federal Government passed the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA, 1996), which denied same-sex couples general benefits & rights of marriage. In 2013, DOMA was ruled unconstitutional. 5 years ago today, Obergefell v. Hodges granted same-sex couples the right to marry nationwide.
