Join artists Rafa Esparza and Gabriela Ruiz in conversation about their storefront mural at The New Jalisco Bar in Downtown Los Angeles. Commissioned by the bar owners with curator Paulina Lara, Nostra Fiesta (2019) pays homage the venue’s Latinx, LGBTQ, and working-class clientele while injecting explicitly queer iconography, figures, and histories into the public sphere. Visitors are encouraged to celebrate inside of the bar following the talk.
This event is organized in conjunction with Liberate the Bar! Queer Nightlife, Activism and Spacemaking on view through October 20, 2019 at the ONE Gallery, West Hollywood. Guest curated by Paulina Lara and Joseph Valencia.
