National Youth HIV/AIDS Awareness Day @ STORIES: The AIDS Monument

Join us on Thursday, April 9, 4-6 p.m., as One Institute recognizes National Youth HIV/AIDS Awareness Day at STORIES: The AIDS Monument in West Hollywood Park.

We welcome youth, educators, and families to attend this inaugural event, including docent tours elaborating on the creation of the monument and local histories of HIV/AIDS in addition to a resource fair of community partners sharing youth sexual health resources.

National Youth HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NYHAAD) was established in 2013 by Advocates for Youth to address the high diagnosis and low testing rates among youth. According to their reports, young people aged 13-24 accounted for 19% of new HIV diagnoses in 2022, and in 2020, only 27% of 18-24-year-olds had ever been tested. HIV disproportionally impacts Black youth, with Black women and girls aged 13-24 making up 58% of all young women newly diagnosed with HIV.

All attendees will experience the AIDS Monument as a gathering site and educational hub for HIV/AIDS in West Hollywood and beyond.

Located in West Hollywood Park on 647 N. San Vicente Blvd., STORIES: The AIDS Monument remembers those we lost, those who survived, the protests and vigils, the caregivers; celebrates those who step up when others step away; and educates future generations through lessons learned.

The AIDS Monument is comprised of 147 bronze pillars called Traces. Like a person, each Trace is unique. The stories of people, and the organizations that were born during the height of the epidemic are at the heart of the Monument. We hope you come to experience these stories.

This event is in partnership with the City of West Hollywood.
