9 AM to 3:30 AM
Monday, July 7, and Tuesday, July 8, 2025

Join One Institute, the UCLA History-Geography Project, and ONE Archives at the USC Libraries for a free, two-day institute focused on implementing LGBTQ+ history and perspectives in K-12 classrooms under California’s FAIR Education Act.
With federal attacks on affirming schools and inclusive curriculum at full force, we seek to equip local K-12 teachers with standards-aligned resources and effective practices to teach LGBTQ+ history and social studies content in alignment with California law. Participants will engage in scholarly lectures, workshops, breakout discussions, archival exploration, and implementation planning while building community with passionate educators and community organizations.
Featured speakers include Dr. Don Romesburg, visiting joint professor in History and Women’s, Gender, and Queer Studies at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and author of Contested Curriculum: LGBTQ History Goes to School; and Dr. David Green, Jr., Assistant Professor of Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies and Affiliate Faculty, Ed.D. in Educational Leadership, at Cal State Los Angeles, and author of Inner City Sissy: A Black Queer Literacy Story.
The symposium will take place on Monday, July 7, at the LA LGBT Center’s Advocate & Gochis Galleries (1129 N McCadden Pl, Los Angeles, CA 90038) and Tuesday, July 8, at the ONE Archives at the USC Libraries (909 W Adams Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90007), from 9 AM to 3:30 PM each day. Participants will be provided lunch daily and a $50 digital gift card following the symposium.
Registration for 30 spots is available on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority afforded to K-12 history/social studies teachers from public schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).
